چکیده
Blood flow phenomena occurring when flow is within the magnetic resonance (MR) imaging plane were analyzed. In this situation, the signal intensity of vascular lumina is predominantly determined by spin-phase change phenomena, and section transition effects of moving spins can be neglected. In this paper, we develop the concepts of in-plane flow, with emphasis on the notion that the spatial variations in velocity and acceleration of blood, which mainly occur along vessel walls, are important determinants of intravascular signal loss in MR images. Flow patterns in the large mediastinal anteries were qualitatively and quantitatively analyzed in six healthy subjects and 14 patients with hemodynamic abnormalities using multiple electrocardiograph-gated image acquisition; ungated studies of 30 patients were analyzed for venous flow effects. Intraluminal signal was strongly dependent on the phase of the cardiac cycle and the echo number. Signal loss was found to occur along yessel walls, in vascular bends, and at bifurcations.

Autoregulation of Blood Flow: Vessel Diameter Changes in Response to Different Temperatures
Background: Autoregulation of blood flow is a marvelous phenomenon balanc- ing blood supply and tissue demand. Although many chemically-based explanations for this phenomenon have been proposed and some of them are commonly used today, biomechanical aspects of this phenomenon was neglected. The biomechanical aspect provides insights to us to model vessel diameter changes more precisely and comp...
متن کاملA rigorous derivation of the bioheat equation for local tissue heat transfer based on a volume averaging theory
A general three-dimensional bioheat equation for local tissue heat transfer has been derived with less assumptions, exploiting a volume averaging theory commonly used in fluid-saturated porous media. The volume averaged energy equations obtained for the arterial blood, venous blood and tissue were combined together to form a single energy equation in terms of the tissue temperature alone. The r...

PURPOSE To present a HOmologous Black-Bright-blood and flexible Interleaved imaging (HOBBI) sequence for dynamic contrast-enhanced magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) of the vessel wall. THEORY AND METHODS A HOBBI sequence is proposed to acquire high-spatial-resolution black-blood and high-temporal-resolution bright-blood dynamic contrast-enhanced images in an interleaved fashion. Black-blood im...
متن کاملImpact of Blood Vessel Wall Flexibility on the Temperature and Concentration Dispersion
The analysis of solute and thermal dispersion in pulsatile flow through the stenotic tapered blood vessel is presented. The present problem is an extension of the work done by Ramana et al. who considered the time-invariant arterial wall. In the present model, the flexible nature of the arterial wall through the obstruction (called stenosis) is considered and it is achieved with the he...
متن کاملExtracting Vessel Centerlines From Retinal Images Using Topographical Properties and Directional Filters
In this paper we consider the problem of blood vessel segmentation in retinal images. After enhancing the retinal image we use green channel of images for segmentation as it provides better discrimination between vessels and background. We consider the negative of retinal green channel image as a topographical surface and extract ridge points on this surface. The points with this property are l...
